Gjilan – In an era when freedom of speech is the foundation of democracy, yet often a victim of pressure, a figure rises on the horizon of Kosovar journalism who never bowed – Musa Sabedini -journalist, lecturer, publicist, researcher, activist, and above all, a man who believed that truth is priceless. He is not only a name in the history of Albanian-language media; he is a chapter unto himself, a window that opened the horizons of professional journalism at a time when the country needed courageous voices the most. Today, Musa Sabedini is an undeniable authority in investigative journalism, an inspiring lecturer, and a mind that continues to create lasting values.

A life that wrote its time

In the history of a nation, there are individuals who do not live only within the limits of their years; they live beyond time, leaving traces that do not fade. There are those who do not merely write news, but give meaning to the news itself. They do not only speak about ethics, they embody it. They do not simply walk the field; they open paths for generations to come.

Musa Sabedini is among these rare individuals: a journalist who did not simply choose a profession, but transformed it into a mission; a lecturer who teaches students not only reporting, but how to remain faithful to the truth; a researcher who does not seek applause, but fairness and integrity.

In a world where clatters often drown out reasoning, where the speediness tends to overshadow quality, and where the media face constant challenges and pressures, the figure of Musa Sabedini stands like an unshakable tower symbolizing professionalism, ethics, and intellectual passion.

At a time when the freedom of speech needs its most dedicated defenders, on the pedestal of Kosovar journalism stands an indelible name: Musa Sabedini, a journalist, lecturer, publicist, researcher, and above all, a man who believed that truth is priceless.

A young man who began his journey with courage during the turbulent years of the 1990s and who, through creative energy, resilience, and professional vision, became one of the most enduring figures in media and public life.

Throughout his journey, Musa breathed life into progress, leaving traces in the past, the present, and the future. He stands as proof that good journalism is not only a skill, but an act of courage, an act of responsibility, and an act of love for one’s country.

His entry into journalism was not a coincidence; it was a necessity of the time. His perseverance was not ambition; it was a mission. His contribution is not merely a professional monument; it is a national legacy that must be passed on to future generations.

This text is not only a biography.

It is the story of an era, of a man who challenged fear, elevated the dignity of the profession, and transformed journalism into a bridge between truth and the public.

It is a tribute to a figure who gave our time a voice, breath, and direction.

The voice that gave meaning to freedom of speech

In an era when freedom of speech is the foundation of democracy, yet often a victim of pressure, a figure rises on the horizon of Kosovar journalism who never bowed – Musa Sabedini – journalist, lecturer, publicist, researcher, activist, and above all, a man who believed that truth is priceless.

He is not merely a name in the history of Albanian-language media; he is a chapter unto himself – a window that opened the horizons of professional journalism at a time when the country most needed courageous voices.

In years when hope was fragile, he brought resilience. In times when words carried weight, he delivered them with wisdom and courage. In moments when someone needed to step forward, Musa was the first to do so. Nexhat Buzuku captures his stature in a sentence that weighs as much as an era: “Musa Sabedini is the most pyramidal figure of his time and generation.”

The journey of a man who never tired of lifting others

From an early age, he stood out for a maturity and determination that defied his years. He was part of student movements, engaged, tireless, and dedicated. He did not remain in the background for long; he led, inspired, and built bridges of communication in a society seeking genuine change.

Musa did not enter journalism as a newcomer; he emerged as a necessity of his time. From his early collaborations with Bujku, Shkëndija, and Kosovarja, to serving as editor-in-chief of Bota e Re (1994–1997), he became one of the most reliable and consistent voices of Kosovo’s reality. On the eve of the war, his reporting as a correspondent for Kosova Sot (1997–1998) turned into living documents of a turbulent era.

The post-war period found him where he naturally belonged: at the heart of public debate. As the founder of the “Beqir Musliu” Journalists’ Club (2000), he moderated more than 300 local and international debates, transforming free speech into a mechanism for strengthening democracy.

His well-known motto, now an integral part of his professional identity, continues to inspire generations: “We continue… as long as there is life.”

Lecturer, author, inspirer

Since 2011, Musa Sabedini has been one of the pillars of the Faculty of Media and Communication at UBT. He lectures, leads, shapes, and motivates. Holding a master’s degree in journalism and authoring five university textbooks, he is today a key reference point for young scholars of ethics, investigative journalism, and digital media.

He has presented more than 14 scientific papers at international conferences and contributions to indexed American journals, as well as to SCOPUS-indexed publications, an indicator of his profound academic engagement.

His work has been recognized four times with the “Best Correspondent of the Year” award, a testimony to his integrity and his ability to deliver journalism with impact.

A human portrait: “Musa boy”, the man with volcanic optimism

Those who know him well call him “Musë djali” (eng. Musa Boy), a nickname that captures sincerity, respect, and closeness.

He is a man who sees the world through light, even when light isn’t there. Open, genuine, and fair. His energy is contagious: he brings people together, supports them, and listens to them.

His character is his strongest weapon: integrity, professionalism, humanism, courage, and passion.

He does not preach ethics, he lives it.

A figure of an era

Musa Sabedini is not merely part of Kosovar journalism; he is one of its architects.

He set standards, illuminated the path, and influenced generations.

He gave meaning to the work of journalists, becoming a shield for free speech and a pillar of critical thought in Kosovo.

Musa Sabedini is an inseparable part of the history of modern Kosovar journalism. He became the voice of his generation, a driving force of social dialectics, and an honest interpreter of reality.

He elevated the profession.

He honored the public.

He enriched academia.

He gave meaning to his life’s journey, leaving traces that cannot be erased.

Today, he is an undeniable authority in investigative journalism, an inspiring lecturer, a contributing researcher, and a man who continues to move forward with the same energy he had in his youth.

Musa gave breath to movement along his path, leaving traces then, now, and forever.

He left traces then.

He leaves traces today.

And he will leave traces forever.

A life devoted to journalism and scholarship

Sevdail Hyseni clearly defines his stature: “After more than 33 years in the profession, Musa Sabedini remains a key figure in investigative journalism and professional ethics in Kosovo.”

He worked in numerous media outlets and lived through the most difficult times of Kosovo’s history – times of occupation, apartheid, war, transition, media control, and the digital era. Only a few others possess such a comprehensive horizon of journalistic reality.

He is regarded as a model of professionalism and integrity as investigative journalist, educator, and publisher, through a career spanning more than 33 years in journalism and education.

In 2007, his training in investigative journalism in Missouri, USA – the cradle of global investigative journalism – deepened his approach to corruption and organized crime.

This combination of meticulous investigation, deeply rooted professional ethics, and institutional impact positions Sabedini as one of the leading figures in investigative journalism in the region.

His message to young journalists

“Do not betray ethics; it is the journalist’s identity.”

He cautions gently, yet firmly:

“Do not be deceived by quick fame. Journalism is not a spectacle, but a responsibility.”

Musa Sabedini: The man who shaped the times

From public debates to university lecture halls, from investigative inquiries to academic publications, he has left a legacy that will endure.

And his words today resonate as a professional testament:

“We continue… as long as there is life.”

A life between journalism and ethics: The professional story of Musa Sabedini

Musa Sabedini represents a well-established profile in professional and academic journalism in Kosovo, combining extensive field experience with continual research and teaching engagement. His public activism began as early as the 1990s, when he held leadership positions within the student movement, including serving as vice president of the Independent Students’ Union of the University of Prishtina and as a member of the University of Prishtina Senate. On the eve of the most recent war, he worked as a correspondent for the daily Kosova Sot (1997–1998), documenting significant social and political developments.

After 1999, Sabedini continued his professional path in several dailies (Epoka e Re, KosovaLive, Lajm), while in 2000 he founded the “Beqir Musliu” Journalists’ Club. By moderating more than 300 local and international debates, he transformed this platform into an important space for public dialogue. He is also the founder of Rajonipress news agency, one of the earliest digital journalism initiatives in the Anamorava region.

Sabedini’s contribution as an author is extensive. He has published important books on the justice system (The Murder of Justice in Kosovo, 2003; Murders and Testimonies, 2010), followed by university textbooks addressing media ethics, online journalism, and reporting on sensitive situations (2023–2025).

These publications have contributed significantly to the development of contemporary media literature in Kosovo, enriching academic discourse on ethics, self-regulation, and the challenges of journalism in the digital era.

The reviewer of three of Musa Sabedini’s university textbooks, Dr. Safet Zejnullahu, has also emphasized that the author possesses long-standing experience in journalism and direct field reporting, spanning periods of occupation, apartheid in Kosovo’s media environment, wartime reporting, the era of controlled post-war journalism, and the age of the internet.

At the university level, Sabedini completed his undergraduate and master’s studies in journalism at the University of Prishtina, and since 2011 he has served as a lecturer in the Media and Communication Department at UBT.

He teaches four core courses: Journalistic Genres, Reporting Techniques, Media Law and Ethics, and Online Journalism, directly influencing the professional formation of new generations of journalists.

In terms of research, Sabedini has presented 14 academic papers at UBT’s international conferences, addressing topics such as media ethics, online reporting, self-regulation of news portals, the impact of social networks, and the fight against fake news. His papers have also been published in international journals, including American platforms and the SCOPUS database, extending his influence beyond the local context.

For his broad professional activity, Sabedini has been honored four times with the “Best Correspondent of the Year” award in Kosovo (2003, 2006, 2007, 2008), a testament to his integrity, accuracy, and contribution to investigative journalism and professional reporting.

He currently lives and works in Gjilan, is married, and has four children. His profile successfully integrates journalistic practice, academic engagement, and public contribution to the development of media ethics and professionalism in Kosovo.

UBT – Where the profession took flight and academia found meaning

In my journey of more than three decades in journalism, I have rarely encountered institutions that not only open doors, but also broaden horizons, offer a new professional dimension, and challenge you to become the best version of yourself. UBT was one of them. Indeed, much more than that.

UBT is not simply the place where I lecture.

It is the place where I grew professionally, where my experience was enriched, where my knowledge took academic shape, and where my mission was deepened.

Keeping it short, UBT has fulfilled me both professionally and academically. This institution, grounded in strong values and guided by a clear international vision, offered me the space to transform more than 35 years of experience into tangible wealth for students, allowing me to pass on not only theory, but everything I have learned in the field, in newsrooms, in debates, in challenging reporting assignments, and in situations that demanded courage, ethics, and precision.

UBT gave me motivation, energy, and renewed momentum.

It gave me institutional trust and professional responsibility.

And above all, it gave me a classroom full of life, eager students, hungry for knowledge, who challenge me every day to give my very best.

In UBT’s lecture halls, I am not only a lecturer. I am a witness to a generation growing with a thirst for ethics, professionalism, and true journalism. And that is my greatest motivation.

Has UBT fulfilled me?

Yes. More than words can express. Because UBT is not just an educational institution; it is a center of academic thought, a laboratory of new ideas, a platform that shapes the professionals of the future. When I teach there, I feel that I am part of something far greater than myself: a project that shapes the journalism of tomorrow.

Thanks to UBT, I have the opportunity to bring every experience, every challenge, every story journalism has given me into the classroom, and turn them into valuable lessons for those who will keep this profession alive. For this, I remain deeply grateful.

Undoubtedly, one of the strongest pillars of my professional support was the Rector of UBT, Prof. dr. Edmond Hajrizi, a personality with utmost academic integrity, a modern visionary and a person who contemplates science as a mission.

His dedication towards innovation and quality education is not just within the framework of the institutional role, but his energy that inspires, push forwards, and creates new dimensions for critical thinking and professional development.

In every step of my academic journey, his supports were not only motivating, but also a proof that true leadership can be measured by deeds, dedication and readiness to elevate others beside himself.

Thanks to such support, great visions become attainable and the path towards an advanced journalism gets even stronger human dimensions./nexhat buzuku/sevdail hyseni/rajonipress/
